ZAMA is an Argentine drama, set in the seventeenth century, in which a Spanish officer settled in Asuncion awaits his transfer to Buenos Aires.

Violence

The strongest scene of violence depicts a man's arms being severed, with some bloody detail present in the aftermath. There are also scenes in which men and women are hit or threatened with swords.

There are verbal references to women being raped and to one woman having the soles of her feet skinned.

There are scenes of natural and sexualised nudity. In one scene a group of bathing women become aware that a man is spying on them. After one runs after him, she is slapped away against a rock.

Language is mild ('bastard').
