Note: The following text may contain spoilers

THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES is a fantasy children’s adventure based on a series of novels about a young boy, Jared, who discovers a book of magic spells that unleashes a world of fairies, goblins and ogres.

Threat

There are scary moments throughout, such as when Jared is chased by a shape-shifting ogre across a roof, but they are brief and counter-balanced by calmer sequences and the reassuring presence of Jared’s brother, sister and mother.

Violence

There are scenes of moderate fantasy violence where the child heroes battle fantastical creatures.

There are also two uses of very mild bad language (‘jerk’, ‘freaking’).
