SHOW BOAT is a recording of a musical about a community living on the Mississippi River between 1887 and 1927.

Discrimination

There is infrequent racist language: a white man calls a black woman a 'nigger', and there are references to laws against inter-race marriage, including "It's a crime in this state for a white man to be married to a nigger-wench". The language reflects the period in which the musical is set. Lyrics in the song 'Cotton Blossom' also refer to "coloured folks".

Violence

Two men have a fight, after which there is brief sight of blood on a man's face as he walks away. A man fires a gun and chases some characters around.
