ROWTHIRAM is a Tamil language action drama about a young man whose belief in always doing the right thing alienates him from his family and places him in danger from ruthless underworld figures. The film was classified '15' for strong violence.

The film contains several scenes of fighting, most of which are presented in a stylised manner. Generally, there is no strong detail in the punches and kicks being delivered, or in the blows from bladed weapons. However, two sequences feature the cutting of throats and bloody aftermath detail. These exceed the terms of the BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' which state 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context'. However, because the bloody injuries are only seen briefly they are permissible at '15' where the Guidelines state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable'.
