REDACTED is a war drama which uses filmed footage from various fictional sources to explore the rape and murder of a young girl by US soldiers in Iraq.

There is one scene in which a young woman is raped by US soldiers. While the build up to the event is sustained and tense, the rape itself is shown in brief shadowy clips, revealing little detail other than the lifting of a skirt and implied thrusting. There are also infrequent scenes of strong violence, the strongest of which shows a captive US soldier being beheaded by insurgents which, although brutal, avoids sight of explicit detail of the head actually being severed. Other violence includes sight of a US soldier being blown up by an explosive device, resulting in brief and undetailed sight of a severed limb. In the closing scenes, there is a montage of real images of injured and dead Iraqis harmed in the war. Although disturbing, they are similar in nature to those shown on post-watershed television news reports.

There is one muttered use of very strong language (‘c**t’) delivered by an unsympathetic character but in reference to the girl he aims to rape, as well as frequent strong language (‘f**k’) throughout and some use of racist terms by the US soldiers, including 'sand nigger'.
