MOOD INDIGO is a surreal French language drama, with English subtitles, in which a man falls in love with a woman who subsequently falls ill.

Violence

Infrequent scenes of violence include a man being shot in the hand with a futuristic weapon, resulting in a small spray of dark blood onto a wall behind him. Another man is stabbed in the chest, with the impact partially hidden, and a small bit of flesh is pulled out. In one scene, it is implied that a man has shot himself in the head, although the impact is not shown. However, a dark mark is subsequently seen on the man's forehead, as a flower blooms from the apparent wound, symbolising blood. The surreal nature of the images, which are shown in black and white, reduces their impact. There is also a scene in which a couple of men fall into an industrial grinder and are minced up. Some of their severed limbs are shown in the grinder with blood spurts. Once again, the surreal and clearly artificial nature of the images reduces their impact.

Nudity

A couple of bare breasted women are seen seated in a glass car in a showroom window. They are fanning their chests, which are partly hidden, as they are observed by people gathered outside. There is no sexual context to the nudity. There is also one scene of partial male nudity, when a man is told to strip off in order to secure a job. He quickly covers his groin with his hands and there is no sight of his genitals.

Other issues include some mild bad language, with uses of 'damn', 'dammit', 'screwed', 'bum', 'crap', 'bastard' and 'balls'. There are some moments of mild innuendo, as it is inferred a man had a threesome when he is accused of looking very tired after putting some women to bed. The same man also says he had to 'negotiate' with a female hotel owner and that it required removing his shirt. A couple discuss how they have not made love for a while and are seen kissing under some sheets, but there is no nudity or sexual activity. There are also some moments of emotional distress when a man discovers someone has died and attends the funeral.
