MAKE MORE NOISE! SUFFRAGETTES IN SILENT FILM is a documentary in which the story of the Suffragette Movement is told through archive footage, newsreels and silent film comedies of the time.

Disturbing images

There is familiar newsreel footage of the Suffragette, Emily Davison, running onto the racetrack during the 1913 Epsom Derby and being fatally struck by a horse. The moment of impact is seen at a distance and without unduly strong detail. There is subsequent footage of Davison's funeral.

There are also scenes of slapstick violence in silent comedies and footage of wounded soldiers in the First World War being treated in hospitals, but there is no focus on injury.
