THE LOVERS AND THE DESPOT is a documentary about how two South Korean filmmakers were abducted by the North Korean regime in order to make movies.

Threat

There is mild threat in a reconstruction of events where a woman recalls being abducted on a boat. There is brief imagery of a syringe, as the woman talks about how she was given an injection. There are also verbal references to 'hearing screams' and the line, 'if we got caught, they would cut off our heads'.
