THE KINGMAKER is a documentary about the life and legacy of the former First Lady of the Philippines, Imelda Marcos.
- Disturbing images
There are photographic images of the bodies of alleged drug dealers killed by the forces of law under the crackdown on the drug trade by the current Philippines government. The images contain extensive bloody detail. There is also footage of the assassination of the Philippines politician Benigno Aquino in 1983; although the shootings of Aquino and another man take place offscreen, there are subsequent images of two bodies lying on an airport tarmac, with brief sight of blood under one of the victims.
- Sexual violence
In accounts of the imprisonment and torture of opponents to the martial law declared by President Ferdinand Marcos in 1972, women describe the sexual violations committed on them by their captors.
There are descriptions and images of real life violence, which are moderate in nature. There are also mild sex reference and mild bad language ('bastard', 'son of a bitch', 'balls').
