JAANISAAR is a subtitled Urdu language period drama in which a prince falls in love with a courtesan.
- Violence
In one scene, a British soldier lashes out with his sword and lops off a farmer's arm just below the shoulder. The victim screams as the severed arm spins through the air and blood is seen on the residual stump.
A collection of severed fingers kept in a cigar box is seen on two occasions.
In another scene, a young woman accused of being a prostitute is held down on a bed by several British soldiers and branded on the torso with a small branding iron.
The film also includes images of corpses hanging by their necks from rope nooses.
- Threat
Some scenes featuring a sadistic colonial administrator include strong threat with sexual overtones. On a couple of occasions he throws a young woman onto a bed, slaps her face, grasps her throat and threatens to cut off one of her fingers. He eventually strangles her.
Other issues include mild sex references and moderate and mild bad language, including uses of 'bastards', 'bloody' and 'whore'.
