FILTH is an adaptation of the novel by Irvine Welsh. It follows a corrupt Scottish policeman who is placed in charge of a murder case, but whose life is unravelling under the pressure of his addictions, lies and scheming.

Language

The film contains several uses of very strong language ('c**t') as well as frequent strong language ('f**k'), sometimes in an aggressive or sexual sense.

Sex

Strong sex and nudity occurs in sequences set in a brothel. There is some sight of sexual activity involving breath restriction, although this is shown as reckless behaviour which is not endorsed or encouraged. In other scenes, a character blackmails an underage girl into performing oral sex on him, although no explicit detail is shown, and masturbates to a pornographic film and to pictures of topless models. The depictions of sexual activity are strong and often accompanied by crude verbal references, but no graphic or explicit detail is shown.

Drugs

There are scenes of drug misuse, including cocaine and acid. The consumption of hard drugs is not glamorised and its consequences are shown in a negative light, leading to paranoia and mental decline.

The film also contains strong violence, as well as uses of racist and homophobic language.
