EL SUR is a Spanish drama, from 1983, about a young girl's attempts to learn more about her reclusive and mysterious father.

Suicide

A character's suicide is implied when we see a body lying on a riverbank with a shotgun beside it. There is no sight of the act itself, and all sight of blood or injury detail is hidden by long grass and scrub. The character's death is not glamorised, and the emotional impact of the death resonates with other characters.

There is also a scene of very mild violence in which a man in a cinema is watching a black and white film in which a woman is shot. There is no sight of blood or injury detail.

Scenes of smoking occur throughout, reflecting the period setting.

There is a single use of 'Moors', spoken by a young girl in reference to people in southern Spain.
