Note: The following text may contain spoilers

DIFRET is an Ethiopian drama about a female lawyer's defence of a 14-year-old girl who was abducted and raped by a neighbouring tribe.

Threat

There are scenes of moderate threat, in which a young female character is chased and abducted by a group of older men, one of whom puts a knife to her throat. The men repeatedly call for her to receive the death penalty after she shoots one of her abductors.

Violence

There is a discretely portrayed scene of sexual violence, in which we see a 14-year-old girl being approached by an older man, who slaps her and begins to undo his trousers. Later in the film, we see a brief image of him standing up and pulling up his trousers, implying sexual violence has taken place. Within the context of the ensuing court case, there are occasional references to rape and to the girl's virginity being taken by force.

There are infrequent references to domestic violence.
