DANTE'S INFERNO is a fantasy adventure game for the PlayStation 3 console. You play as the character Dante, exploring the levels of hell, battling fantastical enemies and trying to save the soul of your beloved, Beatrice. This game received an 18 classification because it contains frequent strong, bloody violence.

Dante attacks enemies with a large bladed weapon, with large splashes of blood spraying out when he makes contact. There is some dismemberment, with limbs being lopped off. Special finishing moves are also a feature, with the player having the choice of whether to 'punish' or 'absolve' enemies Dante has grabbed hold of. Choosing 'punish' results in a close-up sequence of Dante skewering the enemy with his weapon, going beyond the '15' Guidelines, which state that, 'violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'.

DANTE'S INFERNO also features an unusually strong element of sexualisation in a game, and contains some sexualised nudity, with several sequences showing topless female characters in sexual poses. Dante's killing of one female enemy shows him groping her bare breasts before stabbing her with an action that looks like a sexual thrust. The Guidelines at '15' state that 'strong sexualised violence is unlikely to be acceptable'. Therefore this element in the game also contributes to the '18' classification.
