Note: The following text may contain spoilers

CITIZEN KANE is the 1941 Orson Welles classic film based on the life of William Randolph Hearst. It was passed 'U', as it contains only mild and infrequent violence. BBFC Guidelines at 'U' allows for mild violence, if it is undetailed and brief, as occurs in this film. The only notable scene of violence occurs when Kane slaps his wife, Susan in a fit of anger. The other notable issue in this section of the film comes when it is implied that Susan has tried to take her own life with an overdose of sleeping pills. There is nothing obvious in this section for younger viewers, in terms of intent or glamorising the notion of suicide. The video and DVD releases have been passed at 'U' since 1985.

There are numerous scenes featuring cigarette smoking throughout the film, but there is little or no appeal in this work for children.
