BROKEN GARDENIAS is a black comedy about a depressed young woman whose life is turned around when she takes a road trip to Los Angeles with a new friend, in search of her estranged father.

Language

There are two very aggressive uses of very strong language ('c**t'), which are shouted in front of some women about another woman, and are aggravated by the sexual context and misogynist tone. There are also frequent uses of strong language ('f**k' and 'motherf**ker').

Suicide

A prolonged hanging scene shows clear detail of a woman carefully wrapping a length of material around her neck several times, making sure it is firmly holding her head, before kicking the box away from beneath her feet. Although unsuccessful, this scene and other sequences that are suicide-themed place considerable emphasis on her poor mental state.

The film also contains strong sex, sex references, drug use and drug references
