BRAVE is an animated film about a young princess in ancient Scotland. After clashing with her mother about her future she enlists the help of a witch with dramatic consequences. The film was classified 'PG' for scary scenes.

The film contains several scenes in which large fierce bears pose a threat to human characters. An opening sequence establishes the animals as the main threat to the population, with sight of a bear roaring straight towards the audience. The film's magical plot involves a key character becoming a bear, who later faces another human-turned-bear in a fierce fight. The story is viewed through the eyes of the Princess, who is resourceful but occasionally frightened. During the fight between the two 'bears' the Princess looks on helplessly. While there is very little detail in the violence, and no sight of blood and injuries, the fight is briefly intense. After the fight has ended with the death of one bear, the Princess believes she may have lost her mother but they are quickly reunited. The BBFC's Guidelines at 'U' state there may be 'Mild violence only. Occasional mild threat or menace only'. In this case the sequences carry a level of intensity that is more appropriately classified at 'PG' where the Guidelines state 'Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy)'.

The film also contains a few moments of mild rude behaviour, such as a Scotsman baring his behind by lifting his kilt. In another scene a group of clansmen walk away from the screen with bare behinds after using their kilts to create a climbing rope.
