BALLOON is a drama, set in 1979 and based in a true story, and which concerns two families who attempt to escape from East Germany during the Cold War.

Threat

In the film's opening scene, a woman tries to escape from East Germany but she is shot by border guards, followed by brief sight of blood on her mouth. There is also a scene in which a woman panics when she believes she has given her family away, and subsequently imagines herself in a jail cell as a guard throws a bucket of water over her. There is also a pervasive threat of surveillance and capture.

In one scene, a man gets freeze burn on the palms of his hands.

There is also mild bad language (for example, 'shit', 'bastards', 'crap', 'assholes', 'damn', 'hell', 'God').
