violence
References to the Iranian morality police silencing female citizens are illustrated by footage of an officer striking the face of a female civilian. Real war footage shows explosions, gunfire and burning buildings, all without visible casualties.
sex
There are mild references to ‘sensual’ and ‘erotic’ artistic depictions of women.
discrimination
Condemnatory references to discrimination include discussions of the subjugation of women by the Iranian regime following the 1979 revolution and in the present day, as well as references to the Holocaust.
injury detail
A highly stylised painting shows a piece of metal piercing a horse’s neck in bloody fashion. There is also a brief verbal description of burn wounds sustained in conflict.
nudity
There are occasional artistic depictions of nudity.
sexual violence and sexual threat
There is sustained discussion of rape as a weapon of war, although the verbal and visual detail is not explicit. We see several artworks depicting sexual violence, including a stylised drawing of a man grasping a woman who is chained to a bed, and another of a restrained woman whose clothing has been pulled down to expose one of her breasts. An image from the Bayeux Tapestry depicts a naked male attacker reaching towards a naked woman.
theme
There are potentially upsetting references to bereavement and traumatic experiences resulting from conflict and genocide. Paintings depicting the liberation of concentration camps in the aftermath of WWII include images of emaciated former prisoners undergoing medical treatment, and of a pile of nude corpses.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
