THE HANGMAN is a US horror drama in which a man trying to find his missing son battles a demon summoned by a local cult.

violence
Characters are slashed, stabbed, shot and beaten in scenes which include occasional emphasis on blood in the aftermath. There is also use of improvised weapons (for example, a fire extinguisher)
threat and horror
There are several sustained scenes of threat and horror in which people are menaced by a supernatural entity. Some of these scenes also include jump scares. A character is briefly sadistically threatened by a person who threatens to burn him alive; however, the threatened character breaks free and kills his tormentor. People are threatened by hanging. During a home invasion, a character's wife is shot and killed offscreen by an intruder who demanded valuables from a safe.
language
Strong language ('f**k', 'motherf**ker') occurs, as well as milder terms ('bitch', 'son of a bitch', 'dick', 'shit', 'bullshit', 'asshole', 'ass', 'God', 'damn', 'hell', 'moron').
drugs
A negatively presented character prepares heroin and briefly injects the drug in masked fashion. Drug misuse is not condoned by the work as a whole.
injury detail
The back of a person's hand is skinned to the bone after he is attacked by a supernatural entity. A person's fingers are severed during a fight scene, followed by brief close-up sight of the victim's finger stumps. There is close-up sight of deep vertical scars across a person's eyes. There is also aftermath sight of victims who have been hanged by a supernatural entity.
additional issues
Negatively presented characters behave in racist fashion in scenes which also include racist language ('jungle bunny', 'coloured', 'boy'). In another scene, a character explains that he is not homophobic and instead displays acceptance and tolerance. Discrimination is not condoned by the work as a whole. There are scenes in which people grieve for the loss of loved ones. There are also brief mild verbal sex references.
