TELEPORT is a sci-fi thriller, set in a dystopian near future, in which a refugee fleeing state persecution discovers that a supposed ‘safehouse’ is just as dangerous as the situation she escaped.
sexual violence and sexual threat
The main character discovers that the refugee safehouse to which she has been transported is actually a brothel where sex-trafficked women face abuse and brutalisation at the hands of violent clients. Short and visually undetailed sequences of sexual violence include rape, attempted rape, and scenes in which trafficked women are forced to participate in BDSM activity. In another scene, a gay man is coerced by his violent, homophobic father into visiting a female sex worker; however, the sex worker is sympathetic and suggests that they only pretend to have sex.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
additional issues
There is infrequent use of very strong language (‘c**t’) in the context of a crude and aggressive sex reference, as well as more frequent use of strong language (‘f**k’). Strong scenes of gun violence feature spurting blood and strong bloody aftermath detail. There are also strong images of injured women covered in blood in the aftermath of off-screen violence. Police raid the homes of same-sex couples and shoot the occupants. In another scene, a white vigilante patrols a border area in search of asylum seekers and shoots a man to death in front of his infant child. There is also infrequent use of discriminatory language such as ‘faggot’; however, the film clearly condemns discrimination. Additional strong sex references includes ones to oral sex, digital penetration, arousal, and sexual fetishes. There is also a highly fantastical and visually undetailed scene of suicide.
