violence
A man loses his temper and swings the coat he’s holding in the direction of his young son as if intending to hit him. Instead, he accidentally throws the coat across the room, setting off an alarm, and is immediately arrested. In other scenes a schizophrenic person informs other people that she is having thoughts about strangling them, but she does not attempt to act on these thoughts.
threat and horror
There is a brief sequence of threat wherein a person walks into a road and is hit by a car. She is treated in hospital and subsequently makes a full recovery.
language
Bad language includes ‘bloody’, ‘crap’, ‘God’ and ‘damn’.
sex
Occasional sex references include brief comic references to oral sex and being ‘great in bed’, as well as a use of the term 'screw'.
discrimination
Over several scenes, an unsympathetic character reacts negatively to sharing an extended coach trip with a schizophrenic person and objects to her spending time with his child, using terms such as ‘dangerous’, 'deranged', ‘mad’ and ‘crazy’. There are also brief undetailed references to a French-Algerian man having experienced racist bullying as a child. However, other characters clearly criticise such discriminatory attitudes and behaviour, and the film as a whole emphasises the importance of empathy and acceptance.
drugs
Two people share a marijuana joint.
injury detail
There are brief images of a pool of blood under an injured person’s head following a traffic accident.
nudity
There is brief comic rear nudity in a non-sexual context.
suicide and self-harm
A person with schizophrenia struggles with compulsive thoughts about hurting or killing herself. In one scene these compulsions result in a potentially serious injury.
theme
A person with schizophrenia is occasionally shown struggling with upsetting symptoms including emotional distress and intrusive thoughts about hurting herself or others. The film also addresses the emotional toll the woman’s condition takes on her loved ones. The issue is treated with sensitivity, however, with a focus on the love and care that exists between these characters.
