A man flagellates himself with a whip that has, unbeknownst to him, been spiked with nails; we see these digging into his skin and dripping with blood in close-up. A rock is thrown at a child's head; blood spurts upon impact. A man beats a woman; he kicks and whips her before dragging her along the floor by her hair. During the scene, blood is shown spilling down her legs onto her ankles. There are also several scenes in which men engage in fist fights. There are also scenes of domestic abuse in which a man pulls at his wife's hair and, it's implied, hits her with a burning pole. In another scene, a man drags his wife off-screen and, it's implied, beats her.

A man threatens to murder a child, using her as an offering in a religious ceremony. The man's actions are clearly condemned by other characters in the film. There are a couple of scenes in which the child is forcibly pulled onto an alter and threatened with a machete.
