OSKA BRIGHT FILM FESTIVAL: BEST OF THE FEST is a collection of short films showcasing work by work by learning disabled and autistic filmmakers.

threat and horror
There are scenes of moderate threat in which a woman and her daughter are held prisoner and sentenced to be burned to death after being falsely accused of witchcraft, leading to a daring escape. Milder threat occurs in a surreal animated short film wherein a giant captures a scared woman and removes her clothes - without visible nudity - before swallowing her whole. In another film a man starts to panic after finding himself mysteriously frozen in time.
language
There is infrequent use of strong language (‘f**k’), in addition to implied strong language (‘cluck off’). Milder terms include ‘asshole’, ‘ass’, ‘bloody hell’, ‘shit’ and ‘God’.
injury detail
A woman snaps a rat’s neck, bites into it and squeezes a small pool of blood onto the floor in order to fake a fatal accident. During a darkly comic short film, we hear a meow and an off-screen thump as a cat is accidentally run over; subsequent scenes feature sight of the dead cat after it has been taxidermied. There is no evidence of real animal cruelty.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
additional issues
In a sequence of historical discrimination, a sinister witchfinder refers to a girl with Down syndrome as ‘Satan’s gargoyle’. There are also references to neurodiverse people being pressured to ‘mask’ their symptoms in order to conform to what society perceives as ‘normal’; however, ableism is clearly criticised. Other issues include very mild scenes of emotional upset, and very mild rude humour.
