A series of mild upsetting flashbacks show an elderly man being mistreated by his son and daughter-in-law, who insult him, force him to wear ragged, dirty clothing and berate him for falling sick. In a comic scene, a timid man threatens to ‘get the rod’ during an argument with his wife but is immediately cowed when she angrily asks him to repeat himself.

A man threatens several people with a shotgun during a scene of comic threat. In another scene a boy rolls back his eyes and speaks in a croaky voice after supposedly being possessed by a spirit, but it is soon revealed that he is only pretending.

A comic character advises another man to exert control over his future wife, but the man’s sexist attitude is not condoned. Another man explains that he has trouble expressing his feelings out loud because boys and men are encouraged not to cry. There are also scenes in which people make fun of a person’s weight.
