violence
Christ is flogged repeatedly in a sustained, bloody scene; this and other acts of violence, including punches, shoves and baton blows, are suggested by choreographed musical sequences. CCTV screens show brief footage of real clashes between police, rioters and protesters; this includes use of tear gas and firebombs but details of any violence are largely pixelated.
threat and horror
There is CCTV footage of protesters and rioters clashing with police. A man threatens others with a broken bottle. Police restrain, hood and drag a man away.
sex
A musical sequence features some thrusting movements which suggest sexual activity between clothed dancers, while other performers dance suggestively in moderately sexualised clothing; much of this occurs in the background and is not heavily focused upon. Oblique verbal references are made to sex work.
discrimination
An unsympathetic character uses the dated term 'cripple'.
injury detail
Christ is left heavily bloodied after being beaten and flogged; there is close-up detail of His injuries and His bloody face. Impressionistic bloody splashes are projected onto a screen during some of this scene of torture. A woman is seen in bloody hospital robes, and another holds up a bloody rag.
suicide and self-harm
A man takes his own life; this is shown in silhouette.
sexual violence and sexual threat
A brief verbal reference is made to the 'rape' of a land by its occupiers.
alcohol and smoking
Characters smoke and drink alcohol.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
