violence
Simplistically drawn animated characters are shown shooting and beating one another. Similarly drawn characters punch and headbutt one another in a boxing match, resulting in a lengthy blood spurt. We are told a man smothered his son to death. An animated character throws a bowl at the head of their child, who, it is implied, appears to have experienced neglect and domestic abuse from his mother.
threat and horror
Characters are taken ill, requiring emergency medical treatment and seemingly causing threatening dreams and visions. There are moments of gun threat. People transform into monsters, threatening and attacking others, in surreal and comic sequences.
language
There is very mild bad language ('God', 'damn', 'hell').
sex
There are verbal references to masturbation and pornography, bit these lack graphic detail. A man appears to have a vision of testicle-like objects and imagines people accidentally pressing their crotches against fruit products in a grocery.
discrimination
There are verbal references to a character's antisemitism, including sight of her throwing a bottle at a Jewish man. A boy with physical deformities is referred to as being 'crippled'. Discrimination is not condoned by the film.
injury detail
There is sight of realistically portrayed blood seeping into cloth, as well as removed teeth with slightly bloody stumps. There are spurts of blood and sight of internal organs such as brains in highly stylised but simplistically drawn animation sequences. Bodies are shown decomposing in similarly undetailed images. There are verbal references to serious injury.
disturbing images
There are scenes of simplistically portrayed animated figures being herded onto vehicles, often at gunpoint, and their corpses later dumped into mass graves. Other impressionistic sequences show the dead bodies of humans and animals in the streets, decaying. A man experiences unsettling visions which seem to be caused by illness.
rude humour
There are comic references to a man defecating blueberries on the street, sight of a baby defecating as it is held up, and a man has visions of large testicles.
theme
A man experiences mental health issues, as do other characters who are referred to throughout the film; these often have a darkly humorous context and involve extreme or violent behaviour. There are also repeated references to a man's physical illness, which causes him pain and various disturbing symptoms; he receives treatment for this condition, implied to be a form of cancer. There are references throughout to death and bereavement. It is implied that a character may have self-harmed.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
