DEAD IN THE WATER is a true crime documentary series; in this episode, the family of Christopher Farmer recall how he and his girlfriend Peta Frampton vanished while visiting Belize in 1978.
drugs
There are repeated verbal references to people smoking marijuana joints; there are also reference to people taking quaaludes, along with mention of nitrous oxide cartridges. We see reconstructions of people lighting and smoking what appear to be marijuana joints. There is discussion of drug dealing and news footage of the US 'war on drugs' which began in the 1970s.
additional issues
There is infrequent strong language ('f**k') along with milder terms which include 'bullshit', 'asshole' and 'hell'. We are told that the bodies of a young woman and man were found in the sea, bound hand and foot and showing signs of torture and asphyxiation. A man recalls his father becoming a 'Jekyll and Hyde' character after drinking and says he became verbally abusive toward his children; it is implied he may also have been physically abusive. We see brief news footage from the Guatemalan civil war, showing police firing guns and kicking in doors. A man describes how he and his brother became excited at watching two women in bikinis kissing at a party when they were around the aged of 12 and 13; this scene is briefly reconstructed in an impressionistic way. There are undetailed verbal references to 'free love'. A man cleans a fish with a knife to prepare it for cooking, resulting in fleeting sight of blood. A white man mimics another man's patois as he describes a memory.
