A woman is beaten as punishment for stealing, the blows landing off-screen with the accompaniment of the woman's screams of pain. Two women struggle with each other briefly, and one falls to her death in undetailed fashion.

There are very mild sex references, which include sight of artistic breast nudity in ancient murals painted on the walls of an old palace.

Set during Britain's colonial rule of India, the film contains examples of discriminatory attitudes, such as Westerners saying that the local populace are "primitives", "like children", stupid" and "all look the same to me". Some of the European actors are made up to look like South Asian characters. The elements of discrimination are embedded in a historical context which would not be acceptable today.
