violence
There are prolonged and upsetting sequences of domestic abuse displayed by a violent man towards his partner, young children and stepchildren. In one scene, he forces his way into a house and repeatedly hits her head against a wall. A gang of teenage boys are filmed beating a man in his home and a man aggressively slams another's head against a kitchen counter. Strong detail is mostly masked, however.
threat and horror
A gang of teenage boys, armed with knives, seek revenge on a fleeing youth and are seen storming into his house. Other moments of strong threat occur from an abusive and violent man. An eccentric stranger approaches an apprehensive girl in a field but it is quickly evident he is harmless.
language
Infrequent use of very strong language ('c**t') is accompanied by strong ('f**k') and milder terms such as 'bitch', 'prick', 'cock', 'feck' and 'shit'. People make rude gestures.
sex
Graffiti adorning a wall contains a crude comment about beastiality. References are made to a sexual relationship between two 14 year olds. A 12 year old girl tells other characters she is not a virgin but it is strongly implied this is untrue.
discrimination
A man is referred to by a violent man as a 'freak'.
drugs
A man prepares cocaine in front of child characters and references a toad's hallucinogenic properties. However, no drug misuse appears on screen.
sexual violence and sexual threat
A girl has a flashback which suggests she may have been sexually abused. A stepfather aggressively makes sexual and crude comments to his young stepdaughter.
suicide and self-harm
A brief and undetailed reference is made to a woman taking her own life.
injury detail
Moderate injury detail is apparent on people, including children, in the aftermath of violence. An adolescent girl gets her period, resulting in visual bloody detail.
nudity
Natural nudity occurs during a scene in which an adult character jumps out of bed threateningly, briefly displaying his penis and buttocks.
disturbing images
There is brief sight of a dead amphibian.
flashing/flickering lights
This work contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
