drugs
A man says he would prefer a joint to relax him before a medical procedure, but is told that the drugs used are a 'legal high' that he may regard as a benefit of being in hospital.
theme
Upsetting scenes are centred on a terminal cancer patient's struggle to assert her wish to refuse continued treatment of her condition against the objections of a senior doctor. The theme is handled frankly, but sensitively.
additional issues
Bad language includes uses of 'bloody', 'bastard', 'bugger', 'arse', 'piss' and 'hell'. The behaviour of a hospital patient with a dependency on alcohol becomes erratic from withdrawal, and leads to him briefly attacking a doctor. There are infrequent mild sex references.
suicide references, discrimination, drug references, moderate bad language

language
Bad language includes ‘bitch’, ‘bloody’, ‘pissed off’, ‘damn’, ‘screw’, ‘God’, ‘willy’ and ‘bum’.
discrimination
Medical staff address a Chilean patient as ‘Speedy Gonzales’. Staff and patients make harsh and dismissive comments about another patient who has tried to kill herself, and in one scene a nurse slaps the distressed patient in an attempt to calm her down. Such attitudes and behaviours are clearly criticised. A patient is ashamed and upset after hearing a nurse make unprofessional comments about the size of his penis. There is also brief sexism, as well as brief and undetailed references to the Holocaust.
drugs
There are infrequent verbal references to a patient becoming aggressive while being treated for a heroin overdose.
suicide and self-harm
A patient is admitted after attempting to take her own life, leading to occasional verbal and visual suicide references throughout the episode.
additional issues
A mildly bloody bandage is seen on a patient’s arm. There are occasional scenes of emotional upset, and infrequent references to assisted dying. In another scene, women are heard laughing over a senior doctor’s reputation for ‘hitting on’ female colleagues. Sustained mild threat occurs as doctors try to resuscitate a patient.
