Create The Card Competition - Superman
LOOK UP! It's the BBFC Create The Card Competition, back to save the day in 2025! This spring we’ve teamed up with Warner Bros. Pictures to invite all creative superheroes, aged 12 - 16, to create a Black Card design of epic proportions for the latest Superman adventure.
How to enter
We’re thrilled to be teaming up with one of the most legendary comic book characters of all time: Superman. The BBFC’s Create The Card Competition offers every young person, aged 12 - 16, a unique opportunity to create a heroic artwork that will become the official BBFC Black Card for the new Superman film, released in cinemas on 11 July.
We encourage all young artists to watch the latest trailers and ‘sneak peek’ footage to draw inspiration for their designs. We want to see original concepts inspired by the world of the film and its characters (dogs included!).
The artwork must be the participant's own, and we can’t accept any entries that use images taken from films or online or those which have been created using AI tools.
Artworks should be created on a landscape A4 piece of paper. Entrants should include all their details on the back (see below for more details). Alternatively, download the design template below.
Entries can be submitted online, via our submissions portal on this page below, or by posting the original entry to the BBFC’s London offices (Create The Card Competition, BBFC, 3 Soho Square, London, W1D 3HD).
As the artwork will become the official Black Card for the film, please ensure that any design takes into consideration the space we will need to include the age rating symbol, film title and BBFC content advice. We will also add other important information, including the signatures of our President, CEO and winner(!), as well as the film’s unique code, and our BBFC logo.
Please note that the BBFC will add in all of this information onto the winning design so entrants should not add anything themselves, (for example, an age rating).
Here are some examples of entries from previous competitions that should help entrants plan their artwork’s compositions – notice the clever spacing in the artwork to leave room for the age rating, film title and content advice:

Design top tips
Bright, colourful designs that fill the page will produce the best results;
Any medium can be used: paint, felt tip, biro, collage etc. Colouring pencils can be used, but they don’t translate well on the big screen, so we recommend using a different medium if possible;
Remember to leave space for all the important information. Please note that the BBFC will add these details, including the age rating - please do not fill in this information yourself, the BBFC will add this to the winning entry. For further guidance, please see our examples above;
Please do not use glitter;
If creating a collage, please do not make the sheet thicker than two pieces of paper;
Please don't fold the artwork; use staples or sellotape;
Avoid metallic finishes over large areas as this can make the image difficult to turn into a Black Card;
Most importantly, make sure the design is inspired by the Superman universe. Specifically, the universe created in the new film, arriving in cinemas on 11 July. We understand the legacy of Superman but it’s important any designs are inspired by the vision of James Gunn and this latest iteration of the Superman franchise.
See the previous winning designs for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Jurassic World: Dominion and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for inspiration.
Here’s some examples from our Jurassic Park: Dominion competition, which was also open to entrants aged 12 - 16:

How will the designs be judged?
The entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and how well the artwork reflects the Superman theme. Special consideration will also be given to how suitable a design is for becoming a Black Card.
Who will decide on the winner?
The BBFC Education Team will select the long list, but the final shortlist will be decided by representatives from the BBFC and Warner Bros. Pictures. Our CEO, David Austin, and our President, Natasha Kaplinsky, will choose the winning design. We’re also delighted to have some special guests from Warner Bros. Pictures co-judging the competition and sitting on the panel.
What’s the prize?
Not only will the winner see their Black Card on the big screen in front of every UK cinema screening of the film, they will also receive a special screening of the film alongside a BBFC goody bag and some film merchandise. Please note: the winner will need to be available in July to come to London and be part of a special winner’s day experience (all expenses covered).
Nine runners-up will receive a BBFC goody bag.
