DARKEST HOUR is a period drama, based on real events during the 1940s, in which British Prime Minister Winston Churchill seeks to rally the nation against Germany's advance across Western Europe.

Language

There is some mild bad language (for example, 'shit', 'bloody', 'buggering', 'bum', 'damn', 'God').

There is also a scene in which Churchill makes a V-sign gesture towards a journalist. However, in a subsequent scene, a woman teaches him how to deliver the gesture in an appropriate way, so that it is not offensive.

There are also scenes in which injury is implied; however; there is very limited detail.

In one scene, a man says he is suffering from terminal cancer. There is also a brief verbal reference to a sexually transmitted disease.

The film also includes several scenes of cigar and cigarette smoking by adults, as well as scenes of alcohol consumption by adults.
