BLACK DEATH is a drama set in medieval England in which a novice monk who joins a band of mercenaries travelling to an isolated village where the dead are apparently being returned to life.

Violence

In one scene a fight between rival factions includes sight of a man biting into another man's neck, a head and an arm being chopped off, a sword being slammed through a man's foot and sight of a man coughing up blood. Another scene shows a man with his arms and legs tied between two horses whilst another urges him to deny his faith. When the man refuses to do so, the horses are slapped so they run in opposite directions, tearing off the man's arm and leg. A third notable scene of violence shows a woman being interrogated with the implication that a pair of pliers is being used to slice off her toe, although this is not explicitly shown. The scenes of violence are rapidly edited with much of the detail masked.

The film also contains infrequent strong language, sex references and some grisly images showing the dead bodies of plague victims, including sight of a naked body.
