Applications are now open for the BBFC donations program

From 1 October organisations can submit applications for the BBFC donations program.

Date 28/09/2018

The BBFC takes corporate responsibility seriously and is a proud supporter of the charity and voluntary sector. Our role as a public facing regulator means we frequently work with organisations who are doing important work to support the public in a range of different fields. With this in mind, we are opening applications for donations to projects which aim to make a real difference to communities and are focused on our core goals - which are film and cinema; online content safety and regulation; and education.

We make donations annually and this year we will be accepting applications for donations from 1 October for consideration by the end of the year. We will consider bids for commitments from one year to a maximum of three years funding. Requesting a funding allowance of three years will require organisations to accept a break after the third year. Applications seeking to supplement BBFC funding through match funding are welcome but we will judge all applications by our criteria alone.

The criteria for donations are:

  • Recipients must be a registered charity or social enterprise.
  • Applications must reflect the six principles of impact reporting as set out by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) which are:
    • Clear purpose.
    • Defined aims.
    • Coherent activities.
    • Demonstrated results.
    • Evidence.
    • Lessons learned.
  • Projects must be focused on our core goals.  Exceptions will be made for very local, London based projects which reflect our desire to be a good neighbour and to support our community.

We operate a two-tiered approach with greater scrutiny of financial credentials at the higher level.

Tier 1

Applicants for donations under £15,000 are requested to provide:

  • A document proving charitable or social enterprise status.
  • Contact details of an external referee who can provide an independent reference on the organisation's ability to deliver an effective project.

Tier 2

Applicants for donations over £15,000 will require further checks and are requested to provide:

  • A document proving charitable or social enterprise status.
  • A copy of the most recently audited accounts.
  • Contact details of two external referees who can provide an independent reference on the organisation's ability to deliver an effective project.

We will only accept applications and supporting documents online.  Our application form is available below.

Please email all applications to bmorgan@bbfc.co.uk
